Michael Crouse

relocated from Huntsville, Alabama

After 27 years teaching art and printmaking at the college level, Michael Crouse is establishing his own printmaking studio in Paducah. Michael has been creating original prints for 30 plus years. While he is a multimedia printmaker, Michael’s favorite printmaking medium is stone lithography. His prints have been exhibited in juried and curated national and international exhibitions.

Michael’s creative endeavors for quite some time have focused on visually recording the transformation of the rural environment into urban and suburban sprawl. Having lived for many years in the Northeast part of Madison County, Alabama, and participating in this sprawl, he has witnessed the loss of cotton fields and the explosive growth of new subdivisions. While Michael is concerned about the loss of rural lands and the spread of urban sprawl, he is also visually attracted to manmade structures and forms. Specifically, Michael finds the sculptural forms of houses under construction to be visually interesting and exciting with the use of natural and manmade materials and the positive and negative shapes created with 2x4 studs, concrete blocks, and wafer board.
