Dwain & Margie Smith
Margie Cissell Smith is a native of Paducah, she has traveled extensively in Europe and has studied art at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. A noted scrimshander and jewelry designer she pursues acrylic, watercolor, collage and pencil in her two dimensional work. An author and illustrator of children’s books, her latest is a coloring-history book of the historic downtown area for the City of Paducah. Margie’s work is in private and museum collections over the country, locally at the River Heritage Museum. She has won recognition as a local art historian. She works from her Molly Redhair Studio, where she manages her firm MCS Consulting Ltd.
For over 42 years L. Dwain Smith has worked metals. His formal training in theory and lab work of ferrous, non-ferrous steels included the mating and joining of such. He apprenticed under master goldsmith Mike Mesko for 5 years alloying and working with silver and gold of all karats. His acrylic paintings are containments of motion, speed and endurance with vivid colors placed with bold brush strokes and palette knife work. His current metal sculptures contain the same type of kinetic energy as his paintings, through the use of such exotic metals as Hastelloy and Inconel. Cor-ten steel, copper and stainless steel are favorites. Dwain works out of his Molly Redhair Studio.
