Caryl Bryer Fallert
relocated from Chicago, IL
Caryl Bryer Fallert is internationally recognized for her award-winning fine art quilts, which have appeared in hundreds of exhibitions and publications throughout the world, and can be found in museum, corporate, public, and private collections in twenty-two states and six foreign countries. Honors include: 100 Most Important Quilts of the Twentieth Century (2000), 30 Most Influential Quiltmakers in the World (2002), and Best of Show in 16 national and international exhibitions.
Since 1986 Caryl’s workshops and lectures have taken her to eleven countries on five continents. In 2005, she relocated to Paducah to open the Bryerpatch Studio, gallery and workshop center, where students can come to learn and enjoy the ambiance of the LowerTown Arts community.
After formal training as a studio painter, Caryl discovered that fabric, as an artistic medium, best expressed her personal vision. Her colorful creations are pieced with hand dyed cotton fabric. Surface texture is created by embroidering and quilting with hundreds of colors of thread. Although recognizable objects sometimes appear in her quilts, the focus of her work is on seeing, experiencing, and imagining, rather than pictorial representation.
