Carol Gabany is an award winning, self-taught artist who has explored many areas of three dimensional art. She was introduced to eggshell carving in 1999, and was at once captivated. Using real ostrich, emu, goose, rhea, duck and chicken eggs. Carol carves the eggshells using a high speed drill, much like a dentist drill, which is powered by compressed air and runs at 400,000 rpm.
Additionally, Carol makes beaded jewelry employing off-loom, bead weaving techniques such as peyote, brick, square and herringbone stitches as well as bead stringing. Materials used include Delica glass cylinder beads, gemstones and seed beads.
Her gallery, The Egg & I, also features the work of several local and regional artists. Their mediums includes wood turning and carving, glourds,watercolor, mixed media, collage, oil and acrylic paint.
